A5 print of Lesley, a kestrel from the Birds of Shame collection.

Watercolour and ink painting of a kestrel.

Text says:

"This is Lesley. He is a Kestrel. The other birds call him Les. Les is a biker and can often be seen wearing leathers at biker cafes on weekends eating a full English breakfast. He is gruff and hard around the edges. He has had a few fights in his time. No one crosses with him now. He is generally liked and respected in the biker community, with whom he spends most of his time. But no one really knows Les. As a chick, Lesley was close to his grandmother and felt most content when with her. She taught him how to bake wonderfully, how to knit cardigans for baby chicks, and installed in him a great appreciation for the delicate art of arranging freshly cut flowers. Les still loves all of these things, and has become highly skilled at them all, but only ever enjoys them at home, alone. He is ashamed of what he views as feminine hobbies and believes that sharing his full self with his biker mates would lose him respect and destroy his reputation."
