CYANOTYPE
ON PAPER/FABRIC
Cyanotype is a kind of camera-less photography which uses UV light/sunlight to produce beautiful blue and white prints! Cyanotype can be done on paper and on fabric. These sessions are suitable for all ages and abilities.
Participants can use a wide range of items to make interesting cyanotypes - often people work with nature, producing prints of flowers and foliage, and as the process uses sunlight it works well to run this session outdoors. Other things can produce interesting prints, such as printed or cut glass, hands, lace or sheer fabric, lettering, or any object with an interesting shape. Whilst sunlight would be nice, it is not essential for this session as it also works well on a cloudy day. There is a real magic element to these sessions as the images transform to a bright blue and white.
The sessions are fun, playful and explorative, and can be great as a simple, creative activity for groups, but if your group has particular themes that would be beneficial to consider, cyanotype can be used to explore ideas around nostalgia, mindfulness, pattern, nature-connection, ecology, ecotherapy, connection to place, others, or history, letting go, bereavement/loss and new beginnings.
