BLOCK
PRINTING
Block printing is a beautiful, simple and effective activity suitable for all ages and abilities. Working with carved wood blocks, block printing is an opportunity to try an ancient craft originating in China and traditionally used in India.
Participants simply apply paint to the woodblocks and create patterns on fabric or paper. The printing can also be done on clothing, tote bags, and on fabric which may then be embellished further. This is a really simple and effective craft, great for beginners as well as those who are more confident crafters.
The sessions are fun, playful and explorative, and can be great as a simple, creative activity for groups, but if your group has particular themes that would be beneficial to consider, block printing can be used to explore ideas around mindfulness, pattern, Indian arts, colour multi-layered textile work, and print-making.
